The Final Cookout
Extinction Rebllion
Extinction Rebellion, a climate change organization has been accused of being too white. We need a moonshot idea to bring attention to Black Gen-Z’ers. It’s understood that the Earth is getting hotter, but many aren’t aware that Black neighborhoods are suffering the most with rising temperatures. This places important elements of Black culture in danger. Let’s turn this tension of rising temperatures and endangered elements of Black culture into a sci-fi film about cookouts in our future, overheated, world.
EXECUTION
We’ll create a film at the intersections of sci-fi, environmental justice and Black culture. The film will include detail about rising temperatures in Black neighborhoods its health implications, and the changes in our food landscapes. We’ll collaborate with experts in Black cultural commentary like Jordan Peele, Donald Glover, and Issa Rae.
We’ll debut the film at Tribeca Film Festival, and proceed to showcase the film in cities most affected by rising temperatures. We’ll host cookouts, featuring lab made burgers, hot dogs, and ribs, all served in test tubes.
FASHION COLLAB
Extinction Rebellion will collaborate with Black fashion designer, Joe’s Fresh Goods to create a Final Cookout clothing line. The clothing line showcases commonly worn cookout clothing that is distressed, sun damaged and burned, to bring to light to the rising temperatures in Black neighborhoods.
Proceeds from the clothing line will be donated to causes combating climate change issues that are especially affecting Black communities.
